One Hour of Metal

onehourofmusicOne Hour of Metal is where I either put my iTunes on shuffle or tune into a metal internet radio station and for one hour I document what I hear. The good, the bad and the downright awful are always represented with honesty in this segment. Some hours are better than others as you will see in this series. So let’s get started shall we?

This time around I went to tuned into the Classic Metal station (that’s what it’s called, Classic Metal) via the Radio app on iTunes. I had been listening to nothing but Classic Metal Radio on TuneIn.com but figured I would give this one a try. How did it go? Well, read on brothers and sisters. Read on. Enjoy this one!

U.D.O – 24/7

In all honesty, I’ve never really listened to U.D.O and hearing this song is exactly what I thought it would sound like.  It sounds like Accept but not as good.  I totally prefer the new incarnation of Accept over U.D.O but this stuff is totally enjoyable.

Testament – More Than Meets the Eye

These guys can do little to no wrong in my book.  I don’t think I’ve ever really heard a Testament song and thought, “Wow, that was a horrible song.”  Why these guys don’t get the cred that they deserve is far beyond me.  These guys have stuck to their guns all through the years and have never compromised their integrity.  Great fucking band and this song kicks ass.

King Diamond – Abigail

How can you not just laugh when you hear King Diamond sing?  It’s so over the fucking top but yet it kicks so much ass.  This is a timeless classic from King and hearing Andy LaRoque melt faces with those leads is just insane.  There’s really nothing to complain about when King Diamond shows up in your speakers.  This is some epic shit brospeh.

Judas Priest – Riding on the Wind

Just another in a long line of forgettable Priest songs.  This one starts out promising but I always seem to forget that most Priest songs tend to sound the same.  This song could’ve been the bastard child of “Hell Bent for Leather” and “Freewheel Burning.”  After a minute or so I just kinda forgot it was playing until it ended.

Iron Maiden – Stranger in a Strange Land

Man, this song NEVER gets old and will always have a comfy place in my top 5 favorite Maiden songs.  It’s amazing how fresh and timeless this song sounds.  The production is so top notch on this one and I love the use of the synths.  Maiden really went into some murky waters with their experimentation with synth guitars but came out with a product that was and still is stellar.  Great song that I never get tired of.

Suicidal Tendencies – I Wasn’t Meant to Feel This/Asleep at the Wheel

Holy shit.  I haven’t heard this song in fucking forever!  This song is so fucking weird and I love it.  Just another example of how fucking crazy versatile ST could be.  Cyco Myko is a crazy mother fucker but he’s so damn poetic when it comes to his lyrics.  He’s always had this kind of Henry Rollins kind of vibe behind his writing and I dig that.  This song is pretty fucking trippy.  I dig this one and it was cool to hear this one again after so long.

Holocaust – Alone

I have never heard Holocaust and hearing this song makes me wish I would’ve stayed that way.  I’m sure this is some sort of classic metal but it sounds like a tone deaf garage band.  No thanks.

Dio – Fever Dreams

How do I not really remember this song?  This is a great fucking song.  Dio had so many fucking albums and songs that sometimes it’s hard to keep them all together.  This is a song that I don’t remember at all but damn this song is fucking kick ass.  Kinda sounds like “Man on the Silver Mountain” a little bit but who gives a fuck?  It’s DIO!

Faith No More – Easy

Hmm.  Metal?  Ok, if you say so.

Iron Maiden – When The Wild Wind Blows

Two Maiden tunes in one sitting?  I love it.  This song is so great but damn it’s sooooooooooo fucking long.  I really do have to say that I loved Maiden’s return to the epic form with their last album The Final Frontier.  The album as a whole was a really solid delivery and I loved hearing them sound so inspired and full of new ideas.  This song isn’t really my favorite of them but I do really dig this one quite a bit.

King Diamond – The Black Horseman

And two King Diamond songs?  Man.  This is probably one of my favorite King songs.  There’s just something about this guy’s songs.  They are all like little mini metal operas.  This song in particular has some really great layers and tempo changes.  Listening to King Diamond is always an experience in itself and it’s an awesome experience at that.  What an awesome way to close out this challenge.
