The talk of the net these days in the metal world has been about this band called Motor Sister. This is somewhat of a super group, if you will, featuring Scott Ian of Anthrax, his wife Pearl (Meatloaf’s kid), drummer John Tempesta (who’s played with everyone), Armored Saint/Fates Warning bassist Joey Vera, and lead by former Mother Superior singer/guitarist Jim Wilson. Apparently, the concept of this band is that Ian was such a huge Mother Superior fan that for his 50th birthday, he wanted to form a band to play these songs. In all honesty, I really had high hopes for this album but then again, I remembered that I really didn’t like Mother Superior to begin with all that much to begin with.

The album’s opening song “A-Hole” (how clever) just kind of came out at me like a big ol’ pile of meh. It just sounded like generic hard rock music. It wasn’t horrible but it just didn’t move me. The next song, “This Song Reminds Me of You” was a bit better but again, I just didn’t feel connected or even moved by it. In all honesty, I love Jim Wilson’s voice and I love his guitar playing. The band plays really well and it’s cool to hear these metal dudes all dialing it back to play a more groove oriented style but at the end of the day, those things just don’t matter if you don’t have truly great, memorable songs.

Motor Sister’s album is easily the most forgettable album I will hear all year. As a matter of fact, the album was so forgettable that I listened to it straight through once and I couldn’t tell you a thing about it. I listened to it a 2nd time and while it didn’t suck, it just didn’t leave me feeling like I’d heard something truly magical or special. It just sounded like a band playing a bunch of songs and that’s all. Motor Sister’s Ride just didn’t do much more than not suck.
