Iron Maiden – Live After Death…FINALLY!

After nearly 13 years, Iron Maiden’s legendary “Live After Death” video was released to DVD this year! All I can say is that it was TOTALLY worth the wait. I have to give it ol’ ‘Arry. He really doesn’t short change the fans when it comes to putting stuff like this out. The picture is absolutely amazing the sound is just immaculate. Jaymz and I each got our copies the same week and teamed up at his place to watch it and we were like teenagers again as we high fived over our fave songs and laughed like idiots at Bruce Dickinson’s ridiculous stage banter.

The concert was as amazing as I remembered it. Bruce starts out flat on the opening number “Aces High” but by the time they were launching into the 2nd song “2 Minutes To Midnight”, he was just smoking the whole way through. The band played with gusto and tons of energy. You could tell that these guys knew they were ruling the metal world yet they looked to be having fun and were totally modest and thankful in their mannerisms.

The documentary that came on the bonus disc was really fun to watch and hearing all the crazy stories from that tour. Totally great stuff for music dorks like us so we REALLY found this aspect to be fascinating. I wouldn’t have minded it being a tad longer because I really love stuff like this. In addition to the concert, included was their set from the 1985 Rock In Rio festival where they went on right before Queen. I watched this once and was pretty annoyed by it as the quality is REALLY bad. Video and audio are not great but the performance was decent. Again, not the greatest part of this but to have it added here was a nice treat. Also included was the “Behind The Iron Curtain” release which, much like the Rock In Rio stuff, wasn’t all that great. I found it to be a weak performance on their part and to be honest, I would’ve much rather seen some more out takes from the “behind the scenes” stuff like soundchecks, interviews or even cutting room floor live footage of they doing stuff like “Losfer Words” and what not. But for the most part, this was an excellent release to coincide with Iron Maiden’s “Somewhere Back In Time” Tour.

This tour is a tour that I’ve been looking forward to for a LONG FUCKING TIME! So far, they have yet to release a date that is close to the Carolinas and I must say that I’m getting so impatient. I REALLY want them to make it out this way. The last time I saw Maiden was on that dreadful “X Factour” with that tool Blaze Bayley. That guy is a joke and I must say that I MUST see this new tour if anything to wash away the terrible taste that was left behind from that tour.

So if you work for Maiden or are in the band and you read this… YOU OWE ME BITCHES!
