Late Saturday night rumors started circulating that Heavy Metal legend Ronnie James Dio had lost his battle with cancer. Dio was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year but was showing that he was putting up one hell of a fight. Dio was present in April to present at Revolver’s Golden God Awards and discussed his cancer on the Black Carpet. His band Heaven & Hell (Dio-era Black Sabbath) had dates booked in Europe but released a statement earlier this month saying that Dio wasn’t “well enough to tour this summer. We hope that everyone understands and want to thank fans and industry colleagues for their continuing support at this time.”
Manager and wife Wendy Dio posted the following message on Ronnie‘s official Twitter profile at approximately 3:45 a.m. EST on Sunday, May 16: “Don’t believe the rumors, Ronnie is still hanging in there!!! Hugs, Wendy Dio.”
It’s not looking good for our Elfin God of Metal but one can only hope for the best and that he’s not suffering too terribly. He is quite a fighter but maybe this Dragon is just too tough to slay. My positive thoughts and wishes are with Ronnie, Wendy and all the Dio fans all over the world. Ronnie James Dio has touched millions of Metal fans all over the world. He is a great human being and an influence to many. He is a warrior for all of us and is a guy that stands up and shouts for us and lets us all know that we have a place in this world and that it’s by no means a small place!
Ronnie, hang in there and I hope that you will find peace in all of this! No matter what happens, you’ve slayed the Dragon.
