Blowin’ Wind In 2010: The Year In Interviews

2010 was an awesome year and I had the opportunity to interview members of some my all time favorite bands. I got to shoot the shit on the phone with Cristina Scabbia of Lacuna Coil and German guitar legend Axel Rudi Pell. I got to hang out on the bus with Tom Hunting of Exodus, backstage with Megadeth’s Shawn Drover and even interview and drink Yuengling with Dave Brockie of GWAR as he stuffed his face with pork chops and macaroni. I had the opportunity to interview up and coming artists Taddy Porter and Holy Grail. I also had the honor of interviewing Carlos Cavazo of Ratt and Quiet Riot fame. It was a great year and I got to live the dream of going behind the scenes with some amazing people. I was lucky in the sense that every one of them was down to earth, kindhearted and willing to open up and talk about some pretty deep topics at time.

It’s a really cool thing when these musicians that I respect and admire so much open up to have a real conversation with you and let you into their personal lives a bit. Talking to Shawn Drover about being a grandfather was awesome. Tom Hunting expressing his love for Journey and bluegrass music, Cristina Scabbia talking about her shitty car stereo and Ratt’s Carlos Cavazo touching on why he’s grateful to do what he does was a real treat for me. What I love the most about doing interviews is that it’s an opportunity to really get to know the person you’re talking to. I have read so many interviews where it seems like the people being interviewed are just mere subjects. My goal as a journalist is to engage the people I am interviewing. I have a genuine interest in these people so I ask them questions that I truly want to know the answers to and questions that I feel they will enjoy. Shawn Drover is a good example of an interview that started out kind of closed but as the questions came, he really opened up and let me in. We ended up having a great time and I was honored to even hear later that some Megadeth fans felt that it was his best interview to date. That was an amazing feeling and made me feel like I am heading in the right direction.

2010 was an amazing year of interviews and I hope that everyone enjoyed the interviews that I brought them this year. I have decided to link my interviews below to share with all my readers. For some of my newer readers, this is a good opportunity to read some of the past interviews I’ve done and for those that already saw them, well maybe you wanna read them again!
