"Led Zeppelin Are Over" according to Jimmy Page’s manager.

Ok, so I know that this is old news but I just had to mention something about this here. It seems that all plans for Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and Jason Bonham to record a new Led Zeppelin album w/ a new un-confirmed singer have now been put to rest my Jimmy Page’s manager Peter Mensch. The band reunited last year at the 02 Arena in London to rave reviews and not long after the one off performance, talks of a full scale reunion tour and recording were under way. But there was one problem, Robert Plant didn’t want it.

Plant had just released the outstanding “Raising Sand”, an album he wrote and recorded with bluegrass darling Allison Krauss. A tour was on it’s way and Plant was feeling very positive and excited to be doing something different. Matter of fact, he even stated that he wouldn’t be prepared to even discuss a reunion tour or album for another two years. With this news hitting press, it also wasn’t long before news that the band was seeking another singer to replace Plant to tour and record.

I’m not here to judge or say that no singer can be replaced in any band but some bands have singers that set the bar so high creatively, and expressively that I couldn’t imagine a replacement for some of these guys. When Shannon Hoon died and Blind Melon broke up, they were done. They reunited a couple of years ago with new singer Travis Warren and knocked it out of the park. It was great. A few years ago, Queen reunited (at least Brian May and Rodger Taylor did) and drafted rock legend Paul Taylor on vocals. Ok, so here’s the deal. How can ANYONE replace Freddy Mercury? Seriously? I mean, no offense to bands like Blind Melon, Black Sabbath or even Iron Maiden but those bands had original singers who while they were great and amazing, they were singers that were replaced with people who did as good if not better than their predecessor. How in the world could Led Zeppelin even think that they could replace Robert Plant with anyone? Especially Myles Kennedy, the singer from Alter Bridge. Are you kidding me?

Anyways, all that has been put aside and the legacy of Led Zeppelin will remain intact. I would hate to ever think of Led Zeppelin as that band that replaced their singer w/ some post-grunge rock singer who was definitely not worthy of the title and would never hold a chance of ever delivering those songs the way they should. I mean really. Think about it, the singer from Alter Bridge singing “Stairway To Heaven”? No thanks!

Zeppelin, legacy intact. Thank you very much to whoever made this end!
