In association with Banger Productions, EMI Records, Universal (USA) and Arts Alliance Media, British Heavy Metal legends Iron Maiden have announced that they will be releasing a feature length documentary film entitled “Flight 666 – The Movie” into cinemas worldwide on April 21st 2009.

The movie is a behind the scenes look at the first leg of Iron Maiden’s highly successful 2008 “Somewhere Back In Time” tour. For this tour, the band resurrected the now infamous 1984 “World Slavery Tour” setup complete with Eddie The Mummy, full Egyptian themed stage and a set list that was leaving fans with open mouths and sore throats all over the world.

For the first leg of this tour, the band flew in a specially customized Boeing 757 airliner (piloted by lead singer Bruce Dickinson) with their crew and 12 tons of music and stage equipment on board. The band performed 23 sold out stadium and arena shows in 13 countries in just 45 days. According to the official Iron Maiden website, “the film documents the intensity of the punishing show schedules, the struggle with the time zones, the pressures of ensuring that every performance matched the energy of the many thousands of ecstatic and expectant fans from many cultural backgrounds, unusual angles from the spectacular shows… and of course the fun had on the way!.”

This sounds like an absolutely amazing documentary and I cannot wait to see this manifest. Iron Maiden is such a legendary band and it’s so great to see them doing things like this to leave behind such a powerful and ever lasting legacy. I was EXTREMELY lucky to see this tour in 2008 with my buddy CheevyJames and it was without a doubt the best concert I saw all year. To see just what went into making this monumental tour happen for the fans will be something special to see indeed.
