Slayer’s Jeff Hanneman To Miss Upcoming South American Tour?

It looks like Jeff Hanneman just may be sitting out Slayer’s upcoming South American tour according to a spokesperson for Slayer. The tour kicks off next week (June 2nd) in Santiago, Chile. A replacement guitarist hasn’t been officially named but rumors say that it will be once again Gary Holt of EXODUS. In January, Hanneman contracted necrotizing fasciitis, likely caused by a spider bite, and has been undergoing surgeries, skin grafts and intense rehab since.

Hanneman was replaced by Gary Holt of Exodus for a slew of shows and when Holt had to return to Exodus, Slayer recruited Cannibal Corpse guitarist Pat O’Brien to step in and lend a hand. Slayer once again called on Gary Holt to fill in for Hanneman at the Indio, CA “Big 4” show at which Hanneman surprised the fans by joining the band on stage for “South of Heaven” and “Angel of Death”.

I am wondering if this may be it for Hanneman. I really hate to be grim but I have to be honest and say that hearing Slayer with Gary Holt on guitar was absolutely amazing. Holt is a top notch player and they couldn’t have picked a better guitarist to sit in for Hanneman. Either way, all I can do wish Jeff the best and a speedy and healthy recovery. Hang in there Jeff!
