Chickenfoot Ain’t All That Much To Crow About

This week, it was released that Chickenfoot will be releasing their as of yet untitled debut album which will be followed by an extensive tour. The band is made up of former Van Halen members Sammy Hagar (guitar/vocals) and Michael Anthony (Bass/Vocals) along with Joe Satriani on guitar and Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Chad Smith on the drums.

The band’s album is due out in April and was produced by studio legend Andy Johns. The end result is fun, energetic rock and roll with way more balls than the Van Hagar lineup had. I listened to the two songs that are posted over at http://www.chickenfoot.us and to be totally honest I wasn’t blown away.

While the songs definitely didn’t suck, they didn’t blow my mind. I could never get past Sammy Hagar’s inability to write a decent song and this band is no exception. The guy is a great singer, a great guitarist and an amazing front man. I actually REALLY like the guy a lot but I can honestly say, Sammy Hagar is amazing at being mediocre and ya know what, I think he knows that. He doesn’t seem to take life seriously by any means and looks at music as a fun, exciting outlet to get to be 17 years old all the time.

This is the kind of band that on paper looks interesting and sounds fun and just “ok”. If tickets were cheap enough, I might even go check them out live since I know it would be a great, fun show but I could only hope that I wouldn’t be subjected to hearing such ear sores as “Dreams” and “Why Can’t This Be Love”. Sheesh, I’ll take Diamond Dave and his attitude over hearing that crap any day.
