This Day In Metal History

On this day in 1993, the metal world was dealt a huge blow when Iron Maiden aired it’s final performance with long time vocalist Bruce Dickinson.  Iron Maiden decided to commemorate the departure of Bruce with a pay-per-view special called Raising Hell which turned out to be one of the most asinine and lame performances of their career.  Nothing about this show was good.  It was broadcast “live” (the jury is still out as to how “live” it was) from Pinewood Studios in London, England and featured a lackluster, and at times sloppy performance along with random and ridiculous magic tricks and illusions by the lame as hell Simon Drake. There’s no doubt in my mind that this was all ‘arry’s idea. The show ended with the killing of Bruce Dickinson by putting him in a, wait for it, an IRON MAIDEN.

The band really could’ve done this the right way with a great performance leaving the fans with a great legacy show but instead left us with a show where you could tell Bruce couldn’t get out of that band any quicker. Allmusic.com gave it a 3/5 saying that “most Iron Maiden fans will like this.” Wrong. NO IRON MAIDEN FANS LIKE THIS. If they do, they need to be analyzed. Following this atrocity, Bruce would go on to make such amazing albums as “Accident of Birth” and “Skunkworks” while Iron Maiden would go on to hire Blaze Bailey and go down in a “blaze” of non-glory with the craptastic albums “X-Factor” and “Virtual XI.”
