Oh where to begin? Why do I put myself through this kind of stuff? Well, first off, it’s because Jon Leon and White Wizzard make it all too easy. I recently received a message from White Wizzard’s latest singer Joseph Michael telling me to go to YouTube and check out their new song “Kings of the Highway.” The title alone was enough to make me snort but as I’ve always done with White Wizzard, I gave them the benefit of the doubt and gave it an honest listen. Hell, I even listened to it TWICE.
Yeah, I listened to THAT two times. I know right? What do you think? After sitting with it a little bit and trying to process what the hell it was I just listened to, this is what I had to say:
I’d like to think that this was a very honest and open comment. Well, this was the reply I got from singer Joseph Michael:
So according to Mr. Michael, it’s “dishonest” for me to say that he reminds me of DiAnno and that former WW singer Wyatt Anderson reminds me of Dickinson? Wow. It sounds like someone’s ego just got a tad bit deflated. I can’t believe this guy is for real. Actually, yes I can. This guy obviously thinks very highly of himself and seems to have have a hard time hearing someone not think that he’s the greatest singer around.
So I spent a little time looking at some of the other comments and I ended up finding something very interesting. Here’s another comment from another fan about the song:
Seems like TheHollywoodRx is a big fan of Joseph Michael. And for this guy to exclaim that “Wyatt is nothing compared to Joseph Michael” made me think, “Wow, this dude is a huge fan of Joseph Michael. So I clicked on his name to check out his profile:
Hm, interesting. It seems that TheHollywoodRx is a big fan of this new Joseph Michael fronted White Wizzard. Then I look at this page a little, carefully. Do you see it too? HRX Records? Joseph Michael Music? Hm. So I put on my Sherlock Holmes hat and do some more investigating. This time I click on the “website” link….
The link now takes me to the HRX Records website. HRX… TheHollywoodRX… HRX Records… owned by none other than…
JOSEPH MICHAEL! Who’s “other” band Midnight Rain has a song/video called The Hollywood Rx! What does this all mean? What have we figured out here?
So I collected my notes, took a hit off my pipe (huh huh), and exclaimed ELEMENTARY MY DEAR METAL HEADS! I have reached a conclusion:
JOSEPH MICHAEL IS HIS OWN BIGGEST FAN.
It must really bum him out that as of now nobody other than maybe Jon Leon has stepped up to tell him that he is the greatest vocalist that White Wizzard has ever had. Nobody has said that Joseph Michael is a far better singer than Wyatt Anderson… except for Joseph Michael. Joseph Michael had to post on his own bands YouTube video and fluff his own ego in the 3rd person. This is really sad.
So there you have it folks. In a nutshell, here’s the truth. Joseph Michael isn’t a terrible singer. I actually think he’s a great singer. He did a great job singing the old songs live but he’s just not my favorite singer. That doesn’t make him a bad singer. It just makes me like him that much less that he just can’t take the honest criticism that he’s not as good a singer as Wyatt Anderson. I know this, the fans know this, and it’s just plain fact. Much like with DiAnno vs. Dickinson. DiAnno was a great singer. Dickinson was/is an AMAZING singer. Isn’t it enough to just be considered a good singer? I guess it’s not for Joseph Michael.
