Farthead of the Month: Shootin’ the Breeze with Eric!

Hey Fartheads! Dig this. Every month this year I will randomly choose a Farthead of the Month. I have some truly awesome, dedicated, and awesome readers and I consider you all friends. Anyways, every month I am going to randomly choose a Farthead of the Month and if chosen, you will do a 12 question Q&A that will be featured as a post on the blog! This is your way to get semi-famous or at least give you the ability to brag that you’re on a shitty metal blog!

Making the honor roll this month is Eric.  Eric has been a loyal fan and an amazing friend of the Great Southern Brainfart for a while now.  Along with his lovely wife Mimi, Eric attends many of the same shows.  Sometimes we agree, sometimes we don’t but at the end of the day, Eric is an awesome dude… even if he is a Ghost fanatic.  Anyways, let’s all join together in welcoming Eric to the honor roll!  C’mon down, Eric!

What’s your name and what the hell do you do with your life?

Eric  Layton. I work as a manager at Target, and freelance Comic Book Inker.  I’m married to my wife Mimi, and we have 4 dogs and 2 cats.

How did you discover the Great Southern Brainfart?

We actually met at the White Wizzard show at the 120 Tavern and you gave me a card. We actually talked in depth for the first time at the 3 Inches of Blood show at the Earl.

What’s your favorite thing about the Great Southern Brainfart?

The fact that he doesn’t care who he pisses off.  He’s gonna tell the truth as he sees it but he will be open minded.  I also like we talk all genres of music.

How did you first get into heavy metal?

I was in drivers ed class and the guy sitting in front of me was writing out lyrics to a song (Megadeth’s 502) and I saw he had some comics with him. We started talking and he let me borrow Megadeth’s Peace Sell’s and Anthrax’s Among the living. I took them home and put on my headphones and heard this joyful noise for the first time and new that was the music for me ! Thanks Ryan Knott

What are your Top 5 metal bands?

Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Ghost, Holy Grail, Metallica

What is currently your favorite metal album?

Meliora by Ghost is just so good. That and the new Holy Grail record are in constant rotation in the car. They both help me not kill people while stuck in traffic.

What is the least metal thing about you?

I  totally dig catchy pop music sometimes. I was walking through Kohls with the wife and Taylor Swift came on the overhead, and I had no idea who it was, but she was talking about “Haters gonna hate , hate , hate” and It was so catchy I left with that earwig for days. Same with Katy Perry, and Carly Rae Jepsin. There is no logical reason, but it happens.

If you could have dinner with any metal musician alive or dead, who would it be, what would you talk about, and what would you have?

Glenn Danzig. I have loved all of his bands and I have actually met him at San Diego Comic Con, but had a complete fan boy moment. But now I’m older, I would like to talk about comics, his art collection, how he hopes to be remembered, his greatest accomplishment, if he could do something over ( differently), what would it be. A bacon Cheeseburger would be great.

What is one metal album that everybody should own?

Metallica Ride the Lighting- it’s a true work of art, Its so raw in the beginning and you take this melodic ride through the album to the polished symphonic conclusion with Call of Cthulu.  It shows why thy deserve the credit and the shit they get. There will

What is your favorite metal t-shirt and why?

My Metallica Summer Sun and Shit tour shirt from ’92. The fact I can still wear something that old is awesome! That was an awesome show that I got to see Suicidal Tendencies for the first time.

In your opinion, who is the worst metal band out there?

Butcher Babies. Just terrible on so many levels.

Finally, what does being selected as Farthead of the Month mean to you?

Its truly an honor! When I was asked to do this I was excited and told Mimi. She said ”what do you get a plaque or something?”  So many people read this, and to be associated with the website where I have met new friends is cool. Don is an awesome guy.   Just ask Sebastian Bach, BrazenAngel, and the list goes on and on!
