The Brainfart’s State of the Union Address

wasteantitrumpAs you all know, this is a METAL blog and a place where I never really discuss politics.  Well, today, I will make an exception because this blog is my voice and I want to use it.  Why?  Because I have the right to do so.  If I lose fans/friends/readers over this article, than good riddance because honestly, if this article insults you, you are the last person that I would want to be involved with.

Today, many of us Americans woke up to what can only be described as a really bad dream only instead of waking from it, we woke up in it.  The dream is real folks.  My wife even told me this morning that she read someone say that at some point they were waiting for Ashton Kutcher to run out yelling, “America, you just got punk’d!”  Nope.  This is very real.  The results of the 2016 election proved things about this country that I never wanted to believe.  It proved that as of 2am on 11/9/16, hate rules with a heavy hand.  How could this actually happen?  Love him or hate him, Barack Obama was my president and he made America a peaceful, loving, and accepting country and I had never been so proud to be an American.  Today, while still proud to be an American, I am embarrassed, repulsed, and completely saddened that a man who stands for every single thing that I oppose is now our country’s leader.

Today, I feel so sorry for so many people.  I’m sorry for all of the women out there who very well may have their rights taken away from them.  I’m sorry for African Americans, Latinos, and all of the other races out there of all ages who were belittled, chastised, and made to feel a level of oppression that should never be felt in this day and age.  I’m sorry to all of the parents who are going to have to explain to their young children how a hateful, racist, homophobic, misogynist bully is now the leader of this country.  I’m also sorry for everyone who worked so hard and believed until the bitter end that our country would never take so many steps backward.

To all of those who did cast your votes for Trump, all I really have to say is shame on you.  This has nothing to do with voting for who you really thought was the best choice to rule our country.  If you truly feel that, than I have zero respect for you at all because you have no respect for yourselves or for the millions of people that were mocked and ridiculed.  Shame on you and to all the women who voted for this thing, how can you honestly look at yourselves in the mirror knowing that you will now pledge your allegiance to someone who considers you all to be objects to be sexually objectified, called pigs, and considered to be of a lesser social status?  I hope you can live with yourselves because now, unfortunately, we have to live with your choice.

At the end of it all, we tried but the fact is that love lost in 2016.  Who was the winner?  Hate, Racism, Misogyny, Bigotry, and bullying.  The very things that many of us were taught at a young age are characteristics that are to never be embodied have now taken form like a huge ass Voltron robot that is now going to run our country.  I never would have believed it a million years that there would be so many people in this country who would be totally fine with a thing like Donald Trump being president.  Today, I am sad for America and I am sad for the world.  All I can say to everyone, all of my friends of other ethnicities and friends from other countries is, “we tried”.  We really did try but unfortunately, for some scary fucking reason, HATE SPOKE LOUDER THAN LOVE.

The most important thing is to not let this break you.  Today, we must hold our heads high.  We must continue to live our lives, drink our coffee, go to our bars, go to concerts, play music, hang with friends, and run our blogs.  What else can we do?  We can take extra steps to stand strong behind our beliefs and do everything we can to uphold them in the face of this tragedy.  Today, I will take only a moment to feel sad for all of my friends: the minorities, women, immigrants, Muslims & the LGBTQ community.  Then what will I do?  I will fight.  I will defend my beliefs and my rights and stand by them stronger than ever.  I will wear my Anti-Trump Municipal Waste shirt until it fucking falls off of me.  I will empower myself by listening to lots of Sabaton, and finally, I will be thankful that regardless of who sits in that fucking office that I live in a country where I have the right to publicly and very openly display my lack of support for this thing.  Just keep fighting, living, and believing.  Trump may have taken the White House but he can’t take our voices.  Use them and use them loudly folks.  Better late than never.
