After a successful performance in Indio, CA, The Big 4 (Anthrax, Megadeth, Slayer and Metallica) have officially announced that they will be bringing the show to the east coast. The Big 4 will be performing at Yankee Stadium in Bronx, New York on September 14, 2011. Metallica confirmed the news via their website late Friday evening. Tickets will go on sale Friday (May 6) at 10 am via TicketMaster.com, while Met Club members (Metallica’s fan club) can log into the site for more information about a special pre-sale starting on Wednesday (May 4). In addition, Yankees season ticket holders will have their own pre-sale, also on May 4, starting at noon.
I’m really surprised that they didn’t bank on this and make a full fledged tour of it but I’m guessing these huge one off performances are what’s going to keep this idea fresh and keep it from being a haggard out summer tour. I’ve been getting A LOT of hate mail lately regarding my words about Metallican’t and all I can say is keep it coming people. The best part about being a fan of music is being critical. I find it hard to believe that most Metallica fans my age who remember when albums like “Ride The Lightening” and “Master of Puppets” were NEW albums can stomach the band that they have become. I know I can’t and honestly, the performances speak for themselves. Anyone who can sit through that Big 4 DVD and tell me that Metallica played good honestly needs to be admitted into a psych ward. Either way, I’m happy for all of you that are so pumped for this. Call me a curmudgeon or whatever you wanna call me. I’m just saying what I feel. Ok, off of my soapbox.
Regardless of my feelings of what Metallica has become, I still think this is a killer pairing and it’s a great example of bands listening to the wants of their fans. I have to tip my hat to all the bands for that. I can only hope that more tours like this will come to fruition in the wake of their success. I’d love to see another run of Testament and Exodus or some other classic metal bands sharing monstrous bills. I think its obvious that packages sell and the stronger the package, the better the reaction.
