Ugly Kid Joe Is Back With Stairway To Hell!

Ugly Kid Joe has been one of my favorite bands since my senior year of high school in 1992. That was the year the band released their debut EP As Ugly As They Wanna Be and infected everyone’s ears with the hit “Everything About You.” From there the band went on to tour packing in clubs as headliners and supporting Ozzy Osbourne on his “No More Tours” tour. The band released their follow up album America’s Least Wanted to rave reviews and stormed the charts thanks to their cover of Harry Chapin’s “Cats In The Cradle.” While I didn’t really dig that song, UKJ continued on delivering their signature metal/punk/funk vibe with songs like “Neighbor”, “Panhandlin’ Prince”, and “So Damn Cool.”

Ugly Kid Joe had a great run for America’s Least Wanted as they sold out shows and turned out a double platinum album but the face of music was about to drastically change. Ugly Kid Joe released the darker yet really stellar album “Menace to Sobriety” which did nothing commercially for the band and in 1997 the band called it a day after releasing Motel California which barely made a dull thud. I always thought that Ugly Kid Joe was a terribly underestimated and misunderstood band. I crossed my fingers for the better part of 15 years for a reunion and this year my wishes upon the stars of the metal universe came true.

Ugly Kid Joe released a new song called “The Devil’s Paradise” which is the first single/video from their forthcoming EP Stairway To Hell. I am so digging this kinda of Bon Scott fronting AC/DC vibe that I got from this song. It sounds like Ugly Kid Joe and that UKJ vibe is there. It’s dark, it’s heavy, and it totally melted my face. I can’t wait to see this band hit the road this summer. I have a feeling that the Brainfart is going to posting quite a bit about UKJ over the next year or so. Hang in there and dig on this new UKJ. I’d love to hear your thoughts on it.
